Tender Appointment booked

Forgot to update the blog… we got a call on August 23 to book in our tender appointment… finally!

Anyway, we did a bit of research to be an owner builder thinking that it will save us some money. After speaking to a custom builder who does this sort of work, we found out that the cost will be pretty similar if we decide to build a house like the Waldorf Grange. The only things we benefit from being owner builders that we can’t get from Porter Davis is the ability to have a split level (since our block of land slopes backwards), in-slab hydronic heating and cathedral ceilings. We decided that we can live without those things if it means we do less work (owner building is a lot of work).

So our tender appointment is booked in for October 8th. That’s a month away. Things are just starting to get exciting.

Here is our quote prior to tender. We will be making a lot of changes to this quote to try to reduce the price.

Here are the grange inclusions at the time of deposit.

Here’s the original sketches prior to tender. Again, we are going to be undoing a lot of the changes shown on these sketches to try to keep the cost down.
